What have i read?

Title:

Persepolis

Review:

5 stars. i thought this was fiction and did not know it was a comic when i bought it. but it was so good. really insightful into what it was like for her.

Title:

Looking for Alaska - John Green

Review:

4 stars. i didn't expect it to be about what it was about. thought it was a romance ngl.

Title:

Parable of the Sower - Octavia Butler

Review:

5 stars. this book was so good but so horrible. i cried a lot. feels too real tbh. i need the second one asap.

Title:

How to Destroy Surveillance Capitalism - Cory Doctorow

Review:

3.5 stars. i want my mum to read this to convince her to get rid of our ring doorbell. stop survielling me i dont like it. the author critiques other authors for not going to the root problem but then talks about monopoly laws instead of the real issue - capitalism! the reason this is happening is bc of heirarchy, not some law.

Title:

If We Were Villians - M.L.Rio

Review:

4 stars. i guessed it. sad but i didn't cry. the women were kinda 2d characters tbh. felt like it was written by a man but wasn't. i mostly enjoyed it tho.

Title:

The Beauty Myth - Naomi Wolf

Review:

3.5 stars. this took me forever to read.

Title:

The Priory of the Orange Tree - Samantha Shannon

Review:

4 stars

Title:

Woman, Eating - Claire Kohda

Review:

4.5 stars. I read this quite quickly and enjoyed it.

Title:

Infernal Devices series - Cassandra Clare

Review:

4.5 stars. i did cry at the part everyone says is sad. i liked it but it's very long and took me like a month for each book. thank you to my friend for lending me them.

Title:

Marvel Platinum: The Definitive Black Widow

Review:

4 stars. Black Widow is cool but you can defintely tell these were written by men (no offense). also the first few ones were iron man and omds i really don't like iron man - stop trying to glorify billionare tech boy arms manufactures to me (wdym he's the GOOD GUY?!?!??). some of it is such american propaganda too like 'we in america never kill our enemies because we're just so kind!' - yeah sure biggest military in the world.

Title:

Caraval - Stephenie Garber

Review:

4 stars. quite fun.

Title:

Yellowface - R.F. Kuang

Review:

5 stars. I love R.F Kuang. i read this so quick. her writing style is very easy to read and makes me want to keep reading. i am reminded yet again of how capitalism ruins everything. it is strange being able to have empathy for a character but also seeing how they are completely wrong and don't understand anything. you probably will not like or agree with the main character if you read this (and take what i assume is the preferred reading), but you'll probably still feel bad for her at some points.
